Willis Janice Ann Matthew's Obituary
Willis J. A. Matthew lovingly known as Ma, Mamacita and Granny – a mother,
grandmother, and friend, passed away on February 10, 2025, at the age of 76. She was
born on January 2, 1949, in Siparia, Trinidad and Tobago, to Willcliffe and Irma
Matthew. She was the eldest sibling to brothers Roy - ‘Cool Cat’ and Hayden - ‘Heads’
(both deceased). Willis carried the values of love, integrity and family throughout her
entire life.
She was a woman of quiet and simple tastes who loved sewing, gardening, R&B
classics, steelpan, tennis and basketball. She was known for her generosity, kindness,
and sacrifices she made daily for her family. She raised her children with a strong faith
in God, high values and to always put family first. Her grandsons were her pride and joy,
and she was their confidant, counsellor and teacher.
Her legacy will live on through her family and the countless lives she touched with her
kindness. She is survived by her children Sherla, Sonja and Stefan, grandchildren
Koreem, Shemar, Mekhi, Aidan, Savion, Jamil, Trevelle and great grandchildren Kazim
and Ke’vani, cousins Patsy, Glenda, Colleen, Ian, Lester, many others, and her best
friend Lorna. She will be dearly missed but forever remembered with love.
