Wesner Charlestin's Obituary
Wesner Charlestin is the son of the late Yris Charlestin and Herilia Charles. Wesner
was born on June 03, 1950, in Croix-des-Bouquets, Haiti. Wesner completed his
schooling in Haiti, attended the technical school JB Damier, and became a mechanic by
trade. After graduating, he worked for the D’Haitsu company, then went solo, opening
up his own mechanic business. Doing so, gave him the opportunity to give back to his
community by employing those who wanted to learn the trade. While in Haiti, in his free
time he enjoyed working out, lifting weights, and listening to old-school Kompa like,
Tabou Combo, Skah Shah, and Coupe Cloue.
Wesner married Eva Dumay-Mellon on June 10, 1975. He had the opportunity to travel
to the U.S. several times. After the 1986 Coup D’etat, and wanting a more secure future
for his family, he immigrated to the U.S. with his wife and two of his children in
September 1988. He resided with his in-laws in East Orange, NJ for a year, then went
on to get an apartment with his family. Wesner and his family remained in East Orange
until 1997, when they purchased their home in Maplewood, NJ. His family grew to four
children in the States. And in 2006, he and his wife brought his remaining children from
Haiti.
He took pride in working long days to provide for his family in the U.S. and back home.
Wesner worked for two Pharmaceutical Laboratories as the Director of Facilities and
maintenance for 30 years. His new pastime became going to the Atlantic and relaxing at
home. Both a strength and a weakness, he didn’t like to say no, to someone in need. He
retired in December 2019. He is survived by his wife Eva Mellon, and his mom Herilia
Charles.
