Veronica Mays' Obituary
Veronica Mays was born November 1, 1950 to the late McDonald and Frances
Welch. Veronica a devoted Wife, Mother, Grandmother and Great Grandmother
passed away peacefully on February 27, 2025 at the age of 74.
Veronica grew up in Essex County where she attended Newark Public Schools. She
graduated from South Side High School, where she met the love of her life the
late Robert A. Mays. Veronica went on to pursue a career with the United States
Postal Service. She was well loved by the Postal community who bestowed her
with the nickname Ronnie. After 30 years of service she retired.
Veronica also known as Mrs. Bee loved reading, doing crossword puzzles and her
newly found love for Facebook (LOL). Anyone who knew Veronica saw that her
children and grandchildren meant the world to her. Mrs. Bee was well loved by
everyone; the word NO was not in her vocabulary. To know her was to love her.
Her memory will forever be engraved in the Hearts and Minds of all who came in
contact with her.
Veronica was preceded in death by her parents, McDonald and Frances Welch,
her husband Robert A. Mays, her brothers McDonald (Mustafa) Welch, Ronald
(Rahim) Welch, Arnold (Chuck) Hughes and two granddaughters Nyasia and
Kimora Welch. She is survived by her children: Montrel Welch (Tyisha), Lakeim
Welch, Sawana Welch-Muhammad (Amir), Rashannah Mays and Rhodesia Ealey.
Her grandchildren: Lakesite, ShaQuan, Yazeem, Qwessence, Kyzeon. Her great-
grandchildren: Sha’Asia, Quayoin, Imbella and Xyla. As well as a host of nephews,
nieces and friends.
As we bid farewell to Veronica, let’s cherish the memories of her vibrant
presence. She leaves a void that will be deeply felt by all who had the privilege of
knowing her. May her soul rest in eternal peace.
