Valerie Ann Hooper's Obituary
Valarie Ann Hooper-Powell was born on March 8, 1962 to the late Weldon Harris and Linda Mae Littlejohn in Rutherfordton, N.C. She departed this life peacefully on May 2, 2024 at her home in Hillside, N.J.
In her early childhood years her family relocated to Newark, New Jersey where Valerie attended the Newark school system. She later moved to the township of Irvington, N.J. where she graduated from Frank H. Morrell High School, now known as Irvington High School.
Valerie met the love of her life Michael at the age of 16. Valerie and Mike married on April 8, 2005, of this union they were blessed with one son, Shavar.
Valerie started working at the Post Office in 1998 as a T.A (mail handler) later becoming a letter carrier in Sterling, NJ until she retired in December of 2022.
Valerie was a very happy, outgoing, and loving person. She was tons of fun, to know her was to love her. Always ready to have family over for a cookout in her back yard that she dug up and designed with her very own hands. Valerie loved going bowling with family or just out to eat and enjoy one another's company.
The love of her life was Mike and Shavar until she became a grandmother, it was nothing her granddaughters wanted or needed, she would always hang out with them whether it was at the mall or out to eat, they was the love of grandma's life.
Valerie leaves to mourn and cherish her beloved memory her husband Michael, her son Shavar (NiNi) of Hillside, NJ stepson Michael Knight of Las Vegas, Nevada. Granddaughters, Kaleigh, Journey and Zoey, three brothers, John Littlejohn of N.C.; Kevin Littlejohn of Irvington, NJ; and Coalvin Woods of Maryland; She was preceded in death by three sisters, Sheila Hooper, Doris Littlejohn, and Cynthia Littlejohn; also left to cherish her memory her special auntie Janina Hooper, couple sis's Kim & Roslind; Best friend Cheryl Smith; special friend Ezella Harris-Moses along with a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
