Larry Irvington Worthey's Obituary
Larry Irvington Worthey was born on August 20,1946 to Laurie Worthey, Sr. and Annie bell
Williams at Community Hospital in Newark, New Jersey. He was the third of four children.
Larry attended Newark Public Schools and multiple technical schools. Continuously, Larry loved
technology and learned through various courses earning several certifications - always staying
up-to-date with the advances in technology. He even built computers! He earned an Associate of
Science (AS) Degree in Electrical and Electronics Engineering from Union County College &
a Bachelor of Science (BS) degree in Computer and Information Sciences and Support Services from
Kean University.
He served in the United States Army from 1964-1967, serving in Munich Germany as a Field
Communications Specialist. Larry was employed by Western Electric, for ten years, as a technician
in Kearny. After working at the IBM Corporation as a Senior I/T Specialist (AIX Expert) for twenty
five years, he worked as a Consultant for Ebonics Tech and later Worthey Computer Consulting
Services.
Larry married JoAnn Dixon in 1968. That union was blessed with three children: Larry Donnell,
Bryan and Lisa Marie. He enjoyed: Jazz music, attending concerts and traveling. Dancing, DJing &
amp; trying different foods were things he thoroughly enjoyed, along with playing the piano. Football
and Basketball were his favorite sports.
Larry was predeceased by his: father, mother, brother, Lawrence Worthey and sister, Frances
Johnson. He leaves to mourn his absence/passing: wife, JoAnn, children: Larry Donnell, Bryan,
Lisa Marie; Grandchildren: Caitlin, Breanna, Nina, Ciara, Jayla, Mary Clare & Chase. Two
sisters, Minnie Sawyers & Sandra Dayse and a host of nieces, nephews, grand nieces, nephews
and friends.
