Hawallion Cherry Wynn's Obituary
Hawallion Cherry Wynn, affectionately known as “Tricky Rabbit”, was born January 14, 1942, to
the late Richard and Julia Ann Cherry in Hallsboro, North Carolina the oldest of four children.
Rabbit was a product of Artesia School system where she attended from first grade until
graduation in May of 1961. During her tenure at high school, she was an avid ballerina and
basketball player.
After graduation, she furthered her studies by becoming a nurse and securing employment in
Washington, D.C. She later returned to North Carolina where she had two daughters, Beverly
Lucinda and Corsette “Co Co” whom she adored very much.
In 1968, Rabbit relocated to Brooklyn, NY continuing to work as a Nurse. Upon finding a better
opportunity at Newark Beth Israel Hospital, she moved to Newark, NJ until retirement.
Shortly after retirement, she met the love of her life, Henry “Butch” Wynn and was nicknamed
“Short Stuff”. They wed on June 15, 2002, and remained married until his passing.
Embracing her nurturing side, Rabbit began to care for the children of family and friends. You
could always depend on her to provide a loving and safe environment, along with some good
ole southern cooking. She provided unmatched care up until her health began to fail.
Hawallion peacefully transitioned surrounded by her loving family on June 20, 2025. Rabbit will
be remembered for her kind gestures, loving personality and understanding disposition. She
will be missed!
Hawallion was preceded in death by her parents, Richard and Julia Cherry; and her husband
Henry “Butch”Wynn. She is survived by her loving daughters, Lucinda Burchett, Corssette Pratt
(Michael); bonus son, Kenny Spinks (Chris); sisters, Palm Little (Cliff) and Dorothy Marsh;
brother, Richard Cherry Jr. (late, Constance); sister in love, Marcia Wynn; grandsons, Ellis Jerrod
Cherry and Josiah Dishmey; granddaughters, Dasia Williams, Brnija Williams, Kendra Spinks, and
Asia Simmons; great grandsons, Isaiah Cherry, Jeremiah Cherry, Liam Williams-Scott, Ezra
Williams-Scott, Alejandro Vazquez, Zahmir Moore-Simmons, and Kai Swepson; and a special
sister-cousin, Alberta Greene. Rabbit also leaves to cherish her memory a host of loving family,
relatives, and friends.
