Glyn Prince's Obituary
Affectionately known as Sister Glyn/Lyn, Princee, Mother Glyn, Mum, Mommy, and Granny, Glyn Rosamond Prince was a devoted daughter, sister, mother and grandmother who cherished her family and brought joy to her community. Glyn’s family and friends surrounded her in prayer, expressing their appreciation for the joyful memories and endless love that she shared, allowing her to peacefully transition on Friday, March 14. She was born on October 11,1939, in New Amsterdam, Berbice, Guyana to the late Marie Rebecca Lindo and John Prince. As the eldest of her siblings, Glyn accepted her great responsibility with grace. She attended Mission Chapel primary school and later traveled to Georgetown, Guyana where she resided in Kitty, North East La Penitence and finally Tucville before migrating to the U.S.
During her memorable career, Glyn cared for many families as a homemaker and later pursued catering, a staple of her rich family heritage. Her natural culinary ability was recognized while spearheading the catering services for the Waterchris hotel and later the Guyana National Cooperative Bank (GNCB) where eager colleagues awaited Miss Prince’s arrival to savor her homemade snacks and hearty lunches. Her delicious pastries, black cakes, breads and sumptuous meals were often requested by local businesses, colleagues and neighbors alike, who flocked to her home to enjoy their favorites.
Upon migrating to the U.S., Glyn settled in East Orange, NJ with her youngest son Nelson and her grandchildren. She also reunited with her younger sisters Alma (Pam) and Augusta (Sheen) of Irvington, NJ, nieces Renee and Tamica and nephews Charles, Colbert and Eusi. Glyn was deeply spiritual from her youth, religiously observing the sabbath and seeking guidance from her faith leaders. She was fortunate to be introduced to the All Saints Circle of Prayer under the leadership of Bishop Carol Ann Thorne, where she practiced her faith well into her golden years. Glyn’s entire life was a testament of God’s love.
Glyn was predeceased by her son Lenox Prince, sisters Shirley Reid, Rosena (Rosie) Humphrey, Elyze Prince, brother William Reid, nephews Georgie Soodoo and Shawn Clayton (Clay) and niece Cheryl Soodoo, Buzzell Christian, and close family friends Ultia, Myrna, Jackie, Sharon and Miss Merle.
