George Hayes' Obituary
George Hayes Departed his life on June 7th at Alliance nursing Home, Irvington NJ. George J. Hayes was born to the late parents, Virginia Hayes and Al Thomas in Marston, North Carolina
on November 19, 1946. George received his education from Shaw High School in Laurinburg, N.C then
went on to start a work career in trucking and various other local jobs. When George wasn’t working
hard, he could be found relaxing watching westerns and comedies. George would also find comfort in
one of his many hobbies such as fishing, bike riding, singing, listening to music and dancing to his
favorite artist, James Brown. Despite George’s admiration for Mr. Dynamite, he also loved the lord
dearly and was a parishioner of Friendship Baptist Church.
In 2011, George moved to New York to be cared for by his loving sister, Deloris. In her care, George
thrived and quickly transitioned from a “good old country boy to a hip city slicker”. George became
engaged in his new community and attended Good Life Day program, where he met and made lots of
new friends and a pleasure for the staff to service. George and Deloris later moved in with her daughter,
Nakia and her family to provider her mother additional needed assistance with ensuring George
received the love, care and nurturing he deserved for many years.
George was well loved and liked by all he encountered and very protective of his siblings, family and
friends. Although George never married or had children he leaves to morn sisters, Deloris McMichael,
East Orange, New Jersey, Hattie Porter, Staten Island, NY, Helen Evans, (deceased), Shirley McLean, New
Jersey, Patricia Ford, Brooklyn, NY, Eula Mae Jones, North Carolina, Geneva McNeil, North Carolina,
Eloise McCloud, (deceased), brothers, John David McNeil, (deceased), Walter Brown Sr., North Carolina,
and a host of Aunts, Uncles, nieces, nephews, and friends. George also had a wonderful team of kind
nurses who cared for him during his final days.
George will be forever loved, cherished and missed. We are all blessed to have known him and had him
in our lives.
